See wedding dresses of the past at Stump

A CENTURY of marriage is being celebrated this bank holiday weekend with an exhibition of wedding dresses at the Boston Stump.  http://mghby.blogspot.com/

From Friday until Monday, 31 dresses donated by local people will be on display in the exhibition, which has been organised by the Friends of Boston Stump.

Many of them were worn at services which took place at the stump and will be accompanied by photographs and other memorabilia.

Rev Dr Hugh Jones said: his great church is the perfect place to start married life, but it also a wonderful venue in which to celebrate the decades of loving marriage that follow the wedding service.

Together, these dresses stand for well over a thousand years of marriage, and we hope that many people will come and celebrate with us.?

Out of the 31 dresses on display, the earliest will be from 1928, while one of the dresses was worn overseas at a wedding in Cancun. Mexico, and another was made by the bride herself.

Friends of Boston Stump raise money to help the church with various projects and also play a role in educating the public about the church, its history and its wedding dresses national and international importance.

The chairman of the Friends, Alison Fairman, said: her response has been amazing.

The exhibition has really caught people imaginations and wee was simply overwhelmed with offers of dresses and other wedding memorabilia.?

The wedding gowns church is open 10am-4pm. Entry is free. All proceeds will go to the Stump Restoration Fund.
